Transportation
Parents, initiating conversations with your children about bus stop safety is crucial. Here are some pointers:
Before the Bus Arrives
Advise your child to arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes early.
Familiarize them with the designated waiting area, ensuring it’s at least ten feet away from the curb.
Emphasize that the bus stop is not a playground; running or playing near it is discouraged.
Getting On and Off Safely
Instruct your child to wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, the doors open, and the driver signals it’s safe to embark or disembark.
Encourage them to use handrails while boarding or alighting to prevent falls.
Always Use Caution around the Bus
Stress the importance of never walking behind a school bus.
If crossing the street in front of the bus is necessary, advise walking on the sidewalk or along the side of the street, at least ten feet ahead of the bus.
Teach your child to establish eye contact with the bus driver before crossing, ensuring visibility and safety.
Instruct them to notify the bus driver immediately if they drop something near the bus, refraining from retrieving the item themselves to avoid potential hazards.
By adhering to these guidelines, we collectively prioritize the safety and security of every child within our school community.
